About Saskia
Born in Ireland 1964, grown up in the Netherlands, she sailed throw Europe as a Sailing cook. In 1991 she made the crossing to the Caribbean where she settled with her husband on the Isle of Sint Maarten. For 15 years they managed their own charterboot; Random Wind, sailing the west indies, cooking and raising their children.
Her strong connection with the sea got deeper in this Caribbean period. Her first book ‘Sailing and Cooking throughout the Caribbean’ reflects that love for the life she lived at sea.
In 2008 Saskia settled on Bonaire. Kids had to make the next step. So did Saskia in exploring and developing her talents in art. First making small domestic art, later on the popular driftwood signs and creative workshops. In The year of 2016 Saskia made her breakthrough in art. She started her big size paintings expressing the active and positive vibes of sports and nature on the Island. These active vibes of the watersports and the beauty of nature also became the base of her second book. Wind, Water and Waves on Bonaire.
In art, she developed her skills in making in- and outside wall paintings contributing to the character of the architecture.
Nature always has had a large impact on her life. Being outside, she experiences the freedom, time and rhythm of nature that gives her comfort and guidance. Her compact house at the near seaside expresses this connection.
In a professional way she explores these gifts of nature as a coach for students as well as adults. As a Study-coach Saskia guide students in their process of finding the study that fits their talents and ambitions.
